Electrical Computer Engineering – Student Opportunities

Hands-On Learning

Watching how a bicycle works, taking it apart and reassembling it is one thing; doing the same with your cell phone takes a lot more training. Employers consistently choose Ĵý ECE graduates because of their advanced practical and theoretical skills. An overwhelming strength of our curriculum is the many opportunities our students have to develop these abilities.

Hands-on Labs

Nearly all of our computer engineering courses include hands-on labs. Our undergrad labs are unequaled. You'll work with equipment you'll see later in your career. Our equipment includes oscilloscopes, logic, spectrum and vector network analyzers, power meters, dynamometers, and soldering stations. We also have a fully stocked parts room.

Faculty-Student Projects

You can earn credit working independently with faculty on your own projects, or join an existing faculty project. Many ECE students have published research papers and about a quarter of our students enter top-tier graduate programs at schools such as Illinois, Georgia Institute of Technology, Michigan, Carnegie Mellon, Purdue, and others.

Design throughout the curriculum

Design will be part of your college experience all four years. In your first year, you'll work with a team to design and build a robot. Sophomore year, you'll design, build and test an embedded system. As a junior, you'll design and build a circuit board while learning about ethical and professional standards for engineers. As a senior, you'll do a year-long project for a real-world client.
